Cable Wakeboarding Park, Cayo Guillermo, CubaA new Cable Water Skiing Park (inaugurated in August 2017) is located right next to the dolphinarium in Cayo Guillermo. This is a type of water ski (or wakeboard) where the rope and handle of the skier are pulled by a system of overhead electric cable rather than a motorboat. This is the first cable ski park in Cuba.

With an area of more than 7000 sq.meters (8372 sq.yards), 5 towers, and 7 hook up points, the park has a capacity of 110 skiers daily, 12 simultaneously. The cable is suspended up to 10 meters ( 33 feet) above the water, this makes for a different feel than when riding behind a boat. This cable system makes it possible to learn and practice wakeboarding and water skiing at a constant speed over a course that cover a distance of up to 530 meters (1739 feet). Another important advantage of the cable system compared to the motorboat is environmental friendliness, the electric motor of the cable is quiet, clean and energy-efficient.

Cost is between 10 and 55 USD, see here the Price List. They offer a beginner's course in a separate area than the one used for skiing. Safety measures include the mandatory use of life jackets, and the presence of a rescue boat in case a skier falls off the rope. The park also include a snack bar and observation deck.

The engineer and skier Bruno Rixen created the cable wakeboard system back in the 1950s. The German group CON-IMPEX along with the Cuban extra-hotel enterprise PALMARES are responsible for the construction of this new attraction. CON-IMPEX imports the product from the Rixen Cableways company. They plan to build similar facilities in other Cuban tourist areas, such as Havana, Varadero and Cienfuegos.
