Cable Water Skiing Park (Cable Wakeboarding)
NOT OPENED YET! under construction, opening date to be announced...
A Cable Water Skiing Park is currently under construction right next to the dolphinarium in Cayo Guillermo. This is a type of water ski (or wakeboard) where the rope and handle of the skier is pulled by a system of overhead electric cable rather than a motorboat.
The cable is generally suspended about 8–9 metres (26–30 feet) above the water, this makes for a different feel than when riding behind a boat. An important advantage of the cable system compared to the boat is environmental friendliness, the electric motor of the cable is quiet, clean and energy-efficient.
The German company Rixen is developing this project in Cayo Guillermo; the inventor Bruno Rixen created the cable wakeboard system back in 1960. The last time we visited the area, it seemed like they were just starting the construction, see here a few pictures taken in mid-December 2016
